Grant Funding to Support Arts and Humanities in Communities in Maryland (USA)
GrantID: 75339
Grant Funding Amount Low: $100
Deadline: Ongoing
Grant Amount High: $7,500
Summary
This grant is supports projects that blend the arts and humanities to engage communities around meaningful stories, cultural expression, and reflection. The program is open to organizations (and, in some cases, non-501(c)(3) groups via fiscal sponsors) that propose creative, public-facing work combining artistic practice with humanistic inquiry.
.The funds can be used for a variety of project types—performance + discussion, film + interpretation, visual art + narrative, exhibits, community storytelling, or multimedia programs. The essential requirement is that the project has a thoughtfully designed humanities component (for instance, reflection, interpretation, or discussion) along with artistic elements. Proposals are strongest when they recruit an expert or scholar to contribute perspective, integrate community partners, and outline outreach to diverse audiences.
Eligible applicants generally include nonprofit organizations, educational institutions, government entities (such as tribal, city, or county agencies), churches, or libraries. If an applicant is not already one of these, using a fiscal sponsor is acceptable. Projects must take place within the state. The program encourages proposals from groups led by or serving under-resourced communities or populations that have historically had less access to arts/humanities funding.
Grant awards are modest. Because the funding pool is limited, multiple projects are selected each round, and not all applications can be funded. The program runs in cycles (e.g. twice per year), with specific application windows (for example, one cycle in late September through October, another in the spring). Projects cannot begin immediately; there is usually a waiting period (for instance, roughly eight weeks after the application deadline before work may start).
Reviewers look for clear project design, strong arts + humanities integration, measurable impact or audience engagement, realistic timelines and budgets, and evidence of community support or partnership. The grant is ideal for small organizations looking to pilot creative programming that invites audiences to think, feel, and converse about culture, history, or identity in new and accessible ways.
